![]() Not as convienient, but that's the only alternative to upgrading the device. The workaround we're going to suggest (but that I haven't actually tested yet) is to use the Kindle App on iOS. Android devices will not be affected for another few years due to some eccentricities of Android OS. ![]() Affected devices are about ten years old at this point, and represent between 2-5% of the iPads in use today. All those free certificates expired last week on older, no-longer updated Apple devices (of particular interest, the iPad 2, iPad gen3, iPad mini). ![]() Overdrive / Libby compounded this problem by the fact that instead of paying a few thousand bucks for something that would last another decade or two, they decided to use a free service to generate their certificate. Since Apple (indeed, all vendors) only provide software updates to devices for a certain number of years, that means things are going to break eventually. These updates happen at the level of the operating system. These certificates eventually expire, which means a device's list of certificates need to be updated. To function, encryption requires "certificates" that work as keys to encrypt information. The Libby, by OverDrive app is a reading app for digital books and audiobooks that you can borrow from your local library, or any other library you belong to. I wrote this for our staff, but you may be interested as well.Ĭomputers, phones and tablets encrypt information to send it over the internet. Libby is a great and original app that will encourage you to support your local libraries.
